I saw the first episode of CANAAN a couple weeks ago, and was none too impressed. It’s not that I found anything bad about it– it was just that. Nothing attracted my attention. It wasn’t particularly bad, in fact from a standard point of view I might say it was a good episode of anime. But somehow, nothing caught my eye. Nothing stuck out. I’m sounding repetitve so let me just continue.
From only hearing good things about CANAAN from others, I’m about to see if my opinion is changed through the second episode. It’s actually paused, let me get to it.
[fun times after the break.. ( °‿‿°)]
This doesn’t really sell me on being real just yet(IaMP and SWR screenshots?), but if it is I’ll look forward to never getting this in america. ;_;

MORE ON THIS AMAZING STORY AS IT DEVELOPS
You know a show is art when it can make you tear up and laugh in the same episode. Something akin to “I laughed! I cried! It was a beautiful performance.”
At any rate, another touching episode with serious emotional influence. Speaking of, emotional influence seems to be more of the drive of this show, and it handles it pretty well. I’m wondering how BONES will handle it in the future, because I’m sure they won’t keep reusing the same ‘don’t get lost! aww shit ya got lost.’ stunts.
Aftershocks, buildings and bridges and everything else tumble and fall over, all while everyone is in a panic. Realism is obviously another big deal with this anime, but I’ll be damned if I can’t help myself but to laugh at some of these things.

That’s right, Saturday was the last day I attended. Unfortunately, that means I wasn’t able to waste my money purchasing things I didn’t need. At any rate, I had a blast. Got there around 12, hung around the gaming room for a bit (watching Chooch get a 19 win winning streak in Soul Calibur 4), and checked out the dealers room. I was actually pretty surprised, because I hardly saw anything there that I’d've wanted to buy. A couple T-Shirts, hardly any figs, no hats. No hats! Can you believe it. hat hat hat hat
After we left the dealers room, we went across to the mall, got some subway and took it back inside Otakon to eat. We were going to go back inside the dealers room to actually buy a few things, but it was just past 6, so it was closing. We sat by the wall and ate, and I gave our ride a call so we could head home. While waiting we went back to the gaming room and played more Soul Caibur 4.
We ended up taking a bunch of pictures. Normally, I’d've just taken photos of other people, but Conundrum wanted some pictures with us in it, and it didn’t seem like such a bad idea. Turns out it was tons more fun that way. Past the break is some images we took there.
I thought episode 2 was a bit lacking in the entertainment department(albeit was fine storywise), so I was a bit cautious about this one. Turns out I was being cautious for nothing. I loved everything about this episode. Always trust SHAFT! Although the title is Mayoi Snail pt 1, it doesn’t get into the snail bit till the very end of the ep. The first 2/3 is full of Araragi + Senjougahara nonsense which ends up pretty entertaining. You also get the “OH BOY I CAN RELATE TO ANIME” feel a few times in this episode. Feels guilty man.

fact
The last 1/3 is full of a grade-school girl named Hachikuji Mayoi, who turns out to be the best part of this episode. I’ll avoid saying much, so I’ll let these screencaps to the talking for me. (Don’t view if you don’t want any of the episode to be spoiled for you!)

in the background: maniac laughter
I couldn’t recommend this show enough. Looking forward to the next ep! (It’s really hard to review things when you try to keep them as spoiler-less as possible..)
